`To be down on one's uppers' actually means the state of shoes that one has worn down to the point where there is nothing left of the sole. I know this state, we all know this state. Not knowing how to go on, not having much left to lose. The best things have happened to me out of this state. Sometimes also the worst. But there is a language for all this. Or even a proverb. It's proof that I'm not alone.

DOWN ON MY UPPERS
He's walking down his Sunday streets,
he walks alone so he can keep
a thought of her, a thought to seam the sea.
He lost his head he lost his heart
spirits found, so that´s a start
keeps holding back his double binding tears.
He won't cry, he won't die.
He is down on his uppers
down on the ground
chasing for cover again
down on his uppers
that's where he found
parts of his shattering self.
Has she read the news today
she couldn't mind she couldn't say,
in front of her the roads are darker now.
So, what is left from walking fast
from jumping high from shaking past
others’ needs, as ever keen to show.
She won't cry, she won't die.
She is down on her uppers
down on the ground
chasing for cover again
She is down on her uppers
that's where she found
parts of her shattering self.
And now they have no more to spend
you will agree from where you stand
they lost their life, they lost their pride today.
It's what we do to come back from
a dark so deep a cold as strong
they walk the streets they're holding on to stay.
They won´t choose, they won't lose
They are down on their uppers
down on the ground,
chasing for cover again
if you´re down on your uppers
down on the ground
chasing for cover again
we are down on our uppers,
down on the ground
we will find cover again
today.

`Carolina Lee’s lo-fi melodic folk-pop has hints of Karen Dalton and Syd Barrett, their harmonic structures and spacious
arrangements leaning at times toward the psychedelic as they shift from dream to clarity and back again.´
